Korea again

I can't promise that this will be in order. As Beverly puts it, my mind is like a shredded piece of paper. Some correctly fits together, others....not so much.

I know this story was in Korea, I just don't remember when exactly.

I want to make a good balance of happy and sad stories. One post Happy, the next, sad. So you guessed it, this one is a sad one.

I think I was 5 or so at the time. My parents were working on and off from time to time. My mom I wasn't sure what exactly she did, but my dad was a fireman and in the military. 24 hours working, then 24 hours off. Sometimes, he was late and I would stay awake for hours waiting for him to come home. He worked "overtime" sometimes. One day, after school, my dad's car was in the driveway at home. He was working overtime I thought, so I remember running to the door in excitement.

I shouldn't have been running so happily.

Opening the door, I hear screaming. My mom and dad are on the floor rolling around. I thought, oh. daddy's tickling mommy and playing. That's when I noticed her crying. Screams became words. "ANGEL! ANGEL, GRAB DADDY'S WALLET. GRAB DADDY'S WALLET!!"

"ANGEL! CALL 119"[the Korean 911, I swear.] This scream from my father confused me the most.

I remember staying near the doorway. crying, and frozen. Confused I think. I think I was screaming why at both of them.

Next thing I knew, My dad stormed out and my mom was at the phone, crying, with the bible in front of her.

I did what I thought I was suppose to do, I sat next to my mom and rubbed her back. Confused as ever.

My mom and I went to my Halmoni's house, I think for quite some time.

I remember going to church a lot. Sleeping on the cold hard wooden pews as my mom prayed...no, begged to God about something. I never knew what.

I don't remember much afterwards. I learned a lot about what happened now that I'm much older.

More on that another time...another blog.
